  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses (preferably Blackstrap)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix all the dry spices together.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the tomato paste, water, honey, molasses, and apple cider vinegar. Stir until well combined.
  3. Add the spice mixture to the saucepan and stir until fully incorporated.
  4. Bring the sauce to a boil; then reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. For a thinner consistency, gradually add more water until desired thickness is achieved.
  6. Allow the sauce to cool before storing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.
